Siegfried Farnon (described as an "eccentric") hires James Herriot into his veterinary practice at Skeldale House. The show revolves around a trio of veterinary surgeons working in the Yorkshire Dales beginning in 1937. The first episode aired in the UK on 15 September 2022 and in the US on 8 January 2023.

Filming on the third series began in March 2022. The series premiered in the UK on Channel 5 on 1 September 2020 and in the US on PBS as part of Masterpiece on 10 January 2021.įollowing a second series in late 2021, the show was renewed for two further series, each composed of six episodes and a Christmas special, in January 2022. The first series, which consists of six episodes and a special Christmas episode, was filmed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the James Herriot series. It is filmed in the Yorkshire Dales, and received some funding from Screen Yorkshire. The series is a new adaptation of Wight's books, following the previous BBC series of 90 episodes that ran from 1978 to 1990 and a number of other films and television series based on Herriot's novels. The series was produced by Playground Entertainment for Channel 5 in the United Kingdom and PBS in the United States.

What I saw this season, which I think was lovely and I’d like to see more of, is them transition from the kind of gooey newlyweds – you know, stealing kisses when Richard Alderson’s not looking – to a team that stick together and are there for each other. So, I still hope that relationship can keep deepening. But I’m also aware that, you know, the time that we are in… World War II is very real. In an interview with the Masterpiece Studiopodcast, Rachel Shenton (who plays Helen) revealed what she hoped for Helen and James in season 4: In the world of Siegfried, expect further storylines around his PTSD from the First World War. We expect it to follow James and Tristan’s struggle with wanting to fight for their country and provide a service as vets for the local residents of Darrowby.Įxpect more of Mrs Hall’s romance with Gerald, as well as Tristan’s quest to find love following his failed dalliance with Florence. The All Creatures Great and Small season 4 plot has yet to be revealed, but we do know that it will continue after the season 3 Christmas special, and so will be set during the Second World War. What’s the All Creatures Great and Small season 4 plot? Woodhouse has yet to confirm or deny his participation in the new series. It's not known whether Callum Woodhouse (The Durrells, Cold Feet) will be back as Siegfried’s mischievous brother Tristan, or whether his character will be fighting in the war. Will Thorp (Doctors, Coronation Street) will make his return as Mrs Hall's love interest, Gerald Hammond.

Imogen Clawson (whose only on-screen role is in All Creatures) returns as Helen's younger sister, Jenny Alderson. Patricia Hodge (Rumpole of the Bailey, Miranda) returns as eccentric dog owner Mrs Pumphrey - the role played in the first series by the late Diana Rigg.
